Waterproof Nautical Charts -7/1/2014
We have been NOAA Nautical Chart dealers since 1991 but when they decided to stop printing charts in April of this year, we knew we had to make sure we were one of the companies chosen to print certified charts. The initial certification criteria was for paper charts. After all, that's what NOAA had been supplying for a hundred years. And so we submitted a chart on paper and we were approved as a NOAA certified Print on Demand dealer. But since I own a boat I knew that having a chart that would not be ruined by water was what boaters actually wanted. The charts themselves look so cool that many of our customers are just buying them to frame or at least mount and display indoors. And so we'll always offer them in paper. Fortunately, NOAA decided that it was in the best interest of boaters to have anaother option. That's why they allowed us to print the same chart on waterproof paper. The challenge was to integrate and add the waterproof option on over 1000 of our webpages. With some intense tweaking of our database, we were able to pull that off this weekend. Our customers can now choose between paper of waterproof on 99% of the charts.
The cool thing about the waterproof option is the "paper" on which they are printed. It's more than waterproof, it's downright indestructible. You can not tear it, no matter how hard you try. And you can soak it in water for days and it will still be perfectly legible. This is our NOAA Chart Index page.
