Antique Map of Philadelphia 1777

This map was done in 1777 by Matthew Lotter, almost 235 years ago. It comes from our Library of Congress collection of American History. It does a great job of showing how the city was born between the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. If you zoom in on the map wou will see that individual farms and land holdings out in the townships are noted by name. Maybe you ancestors are listed there? This map also shows all the country roads that existed. Each one is named, primarily for its' destination. (e.g. Road to Trenton)
